Jimmy "Early" Byrd and "Wild Man" Steve Gallon started Black Radio in the Boston Market in 1960. Steve had always wanted to be the consummate comedian and promoter and achieved success during the late sixties until his passing. Jimmy enjoyed working with him in Boston up until he moved backed to Florida in 1966.

He was widely known as one of the top Blue rated comedians along with Redd Foxx, Rudy Ray Moore, Clarence "Blowfly" Reid and Richard Pryor.
